Matthew Johnson '19 Recruiting Profile

My name is Matthew Johnson and I reside in Washington Township Michigan.  I've played club soccer as long as I can remember, along with club basketball and club baseball until just a couple years ago.  I'll be pursuing a managerial business or accounting degree coupled with a top notch soccer program that I can be a contributor. I've always challenged myself to maintain my grades with having several advanced/honors classes and while competing in multiple sports.  My professors would say that I'm a leader and not a follower, especially when it comes to doing the right thing and demonstrating ethical behavior.   When it comes to soccer,  I've notice my most improvement recently thanks to private trainings and hitting the weight room, sometimes early before school.   Over the past year,  I've been training with ex-professional German soccer player Alex Strehmel, voted #1 defensive player in 1989 and coaching over 200 professional games in Europe.  Alex has been instrumental in improving both my mental and physical skills.  As an example, I've learned how to properly header the ball which I believe enabled me to get two game winning headers in the 2017 divisional quarter and semi-final games; I also saved a goal using my head in the final divisional game.  My coaches would describe me as extremely hard working, athletic, positive, coachable and a team leader; I feel honored to have been selected as a team captain under Coach Mukhtar at DeLaSalle.  I am working with NCSA in hopes of finding the right fit for my college education and a top-rated competitive college soccer program that I can be proud to be part of.  Thank you for reviewing my profile and for considering me for your university and soccer team!
