My name is Owen, I’m 16 years old, and a junior in high school. I began playing when I was 4 years old in a boosters league in my community. My parents started me in soccer because my dad always wanted to play and thought he would be good at it. He then saw I had a similar body type to him and started me playing. I played there until I felt I needed more of a challenge at age 8. I joined the Blaine Soccer Club where I played on a C1 team which , this year (2018), became a Premier, Tier 2 team. At Blaine, I improved my ball skills, working on my left foot until it was almost equal to my dominant right. This summer I worked hard practicing every day for weeks on end to take the next step in my soccer career. Coming to the end of July, I decided to tryout for MU and proceeded to make their premier tier 2 team, who went undefeated last year. If I were to describe myself as a player, I would say I am a playmaker. I am good at incorporating the whole team, playing through balls, playing box to box, and leading on the field. I am very aware on the field, quick on my feet, and a communicator.
I have learned through my parents that academics are very important through their persistent reminders to keep my grades up. They created a supportive and preparatory environment for me to reach my academic goals. So far, I have gotten what I’ve wanted with my GPA at a 3.97 (unweighted) and I will continue to work hard through my junior year to fulfill my goals. While I work hard in school, I also want to improve on the field. I won the Most Improved Player Award for my high school varsity team last year and am continuing to work hard in the off-season.
In my free time I play the guitar, hang out with my friends at the park, play with my dog, or play card games with my family. I also volunteer. For example, I helped prepare a summer camp the past 2 years(Camp Cherith) and I volunteer as a student coach for kids soccer camps in my community as well as at the Adrenaline Soccer Complex.
