Soccer is really important to me, growing up in Jamaica it was really hard for me to play because of my respiratory illness known as asthma. I didn’t let that stop me from trying. You see, growing up in my family , my brothers and cousins had sports and academic achievements or trophies while I only had academic achievements .This made me very determined to pursue for a soccer team. In the summer of 2016 , I immigrated to the states leaving all my friends , family , and lifestyle in my native country. I had to sacrifice seeing my mom to migration. This was very hard for me because I had spent 15 years of my life with my mother and we have a very special bond , but being the opportunist person I am I saw the opportunities in migrating. Migrating I had two sole purposes to get a diploma , go to college and play for a good soccer team.
While in the states I’ve played for many clubs and my school Prospect Heights in the PSAL(Public School Athletic League). While playing for my school we made the playoffs for the first time in the schools history. I am also playing for one of the most prestigious and finest soccer club in Brooklyn , NY. While at Progressive Youths Soccer club I won the U-19 state championship at age 15 in my first year playing. This opportunity has shown me that in life things aren’t just about yourself , when you play for a team you win and lose as one. I was told many times in Jamaica that I was too slow , short , weak to play soccer but I never let that stop me from going after what i wanted. I had to mindset and attitude to achieve and go after what I want , this taught me not only regarding sports but everything that if you want it go for it.
