Personal Statement
My name is Zachary Shufelt and I am currently in my senior year at East Syracuse Minoa High School (ESM). I am interested in attending a college that has a strong academic reputation and an elite men’s soccer program.
My love for soccer started at the age of four. My varsity career began as a ninth grader when I was pulled up from JV after just four games. This past year, as a center midfielder, I was awarded 3rd team All State, nominated for the CNY Large School Player of the year and named the SCAC Metro Division Co-Player of the year. My club team (Syracuse Development Academy 2004 Boys) won the NY State Cup West and will be participating in the USYS Eastern Regionals. To date, my statistics on my club team are 7 goals and 8 assists in 17 games. I am in the honor’s program at ESM and have already completed multiple college courses. I was accepted into the New Visions Engineering Program where I spend each morning of my senior year at Lockheed Martin learning the fundamentals of engineering and participating in an internship program.
Playing three sports through school, including soccer, basketball, and lacrosse, has made me very well rounded. Time management skills have become very important while juggling sports and a difficult course load. I have taken on the challenges presented and have become more focused and driven for success. I love to compete, and this motivates me to be the best that I can be. I enjoy the camaraderie that comes from teamwork and obtaining a common goal.
I am disciplined, know how to prioritize, and I am a leader. I would be a positive contributor to any team as I am a hard-working athlete with the desire to succeed.
