Personal Statement
My name is Joey Naso and I am a 2022 goalkeeper at John Jay High School in East Fishkill, New York. I fell in love with the game of soccer when I was only three years old. No matter where I went, I always had a ball at my feet. Although I have played many positions, I was always drawn to the goal and have been playing goalie for as long as I can remember. I have always continued to work on my foot skills though, and I feel like that sets me apart from many other keepers. I am a very versatile player and although the goal box will always be my second home, my coaches have also used me on the field when needed. As a keeper, communication is very important to me. I am always talking and I do my best to help control not only my box, but the entire field. I currently play for the LaGrange Warriors and the highlight of my career so far was in the spring of 2019 when I helped lead my team to a Division One championship, going undefeated and not letting in a goal the entire season. My dream to play soccer in college stemmed from my father who has always been an amazing role model to me. He was my coach when I was younger and helped to shape me into the player I am today. He was a goalkeeper also and played college soccer at SUNY Oswego.
In addition to soccer, academics also play a huge role in my daily life. Balancing school work, training and homework is a tough task, but I always get it done and I do it well. I am a high honor roll student and I have also received many awards for my character and respect. I am very hardworking, both on and off the field, and just an all around good person and teammate. I would love nothing more than to see my dream to play college soccer come true!
