My name is Vincent Antonelli and i have been playing soccer for as long as i can remember. Starting at three years old, i realized that soccer can be portrayed as a metaphor for my life. As etiquette and athletic ability guides my body on the field, it also guides me throughout the twists and turns of my life. I have learned that both soccer and life not only require skill, but also call for focus and heart. When having a difficult time in the game, you must control your negative emotions and maintain a respectful and focused outlook. Being composed throughout struggles in my life is a quality I use when on and off the soccer field. Soccer proves that no matter how complicated life gets, I am always grateful to experience another day with the opportunity to inspire others. The game of soccer has taught me not to get caught up in the little things that can sometimes make life frustrating, but to look at the bigger picture and realize what is truly important. One play may be important, but it’s the collective play that wins a game. Being positive and reaching out to others has been a big part of my high school career as a captain of my team. The next big “goal” for me is college, where I will continue to apply these lessons to everything I do and motivate others.
