School: World of Inquiry School 58 10th GradeI am part of Rochester’s Liberian refugee population. When I was about 5 years old, my family fled the civil war raging in Liberia and came to the United States after stays in refugee camps in Ivory Coast and Guinea. I am raised raised by my grandmother who works nights in a factory. My grandfather is too old and infirm to work, but he is a huge soccer fan.I live in a small 3 bedroom apartment on William Warfield St off North Clinton Ave and Upper Falls Blvd. in the City of Rochester, which we share with a couple other family members and younger cousins. My grandmother relies on her meager earnings to support me and the other members of our household.I have participated in all levels of Flower City Soccer since I was 5 years old. I played on the Flower City United travel team when it began in 2011, played in the Flower City rec league, the yearly winter futsal league, as well as the Thruway League and numerous tournaments in WNY and Cleveland, OH. I was also chosen to start on ODP tournament teams in 2013 and 2015.At School 58, my favorite classes are math and English. I played as a starter on our Varsity squad starting in the 8th grade when we made it to the Section V Semifinals, and in the 9th grade when we lost in the State Championship final 1-0. I hope that the combination of my good grades and soccer skills will help me get a scholarship to a good university.
