My understanding of the world around me, both athletically and academically, has been influenced by my learning disability. Growing up, I discovered that I suffer from an auditory processing disorder, which affects the way and time I process information. Many people would consider my disorder as a setback and disadvantage, but I have turned into a weapon. I went from being in special ed classes when I was in elementary school, to being fully integrated to the normal student body by the time I was in middle school. It taught me how to be resilient, and to constantly battle obstacles inside and around me. I used my disorder as strength to use it to teach me discipline, strength, and grit. Soccer has always been a huge part of my life, it helped me find ambition, truth, and love within the game. Without soccer I would not be the person I am today. I had many people tell me that I wasn’t good enough, just like people always told me I wasn’t smart enough in school; but that only fueled my ambition. This resulted in me playing U.S Development Soccer Academy by the time I was twelve and when I got to high school, I was the only freshman (together with another classmate) admitted to the varsity team in my entire school. My disability became the anecdote to my success, and it has resulted in my becoming a more resilient, ambitious, student and athlete.
