Personal Statement
I am in the class of 2023 at Jordan High School in Durham, North Carolina. I play soccer for San Lee FC, which is a semi-pro team that competes in the top division of the United Premier Soccer League (UPSL), and I also play soccer for International Development Futbol (IDF) of the Triangle on the U19 team, which has qualified for the US Club Soccer National Cup 3 out of the past 4 years. I typically start at center back for both teams, but my coaches can depend on me to play any position that they need, including outside back, defensive mid, winger, and center forward. Both San Lee and IDF are small clubs with many players and families from diverse international backgrounds, which I love. My teammates share my passion for the game, competitive drive, and commitment to hard work and discipline.
On the field, my strengths include my speed, footwork, field vision, defending, and distributing the ball. I have a positive attitude and give my best effort at every practice and game. I work hard to continuously improve these and other aspects of my game because I want to play soccer at the highest level.
Soccer is my main and favorite sport, but I enjoy playing many sports (swimming, track, tennis, and basketball). I know it is important to cross-train and stay fit to avoid injury. I am a certified lifeguard and swim coach. I also work with younger kids in athletic and wildlife camp settings. I volunteer in my community by feeding the homeless and by helping a refugee family adjust to life in America.
I take Honors and AP courses, and my GPA is above 4.0. I also scored a 29 on the ACT. Ultimately, my goal is to play soccer at a university with strong academics, and hopefully professionally. I am working to achieve that goal by challenging myself with a rigorous academic schedule, high-level soccer training, and competing in other sports that help keep me balanced and fit.
