Joshua Callahan '25 Recruiting Profile

Soccer is my passion.  I have been playing soccer since I was very young, and my love for the sport has only grown over the years. I have dedicated countless hours to honing my skills and improving my game. My dream is to continue playing soccer at the collegiate level.  I feel strongly I have the physical and mental abilities to do just that.  I would be thrilled with the possibility of doing that.  I feel strongly, all you need is the opportunity to see me in action, for you to see my potential.

• I have the versatility to play almost anywhere on the pitch at a high level.
• I have excellent straight away speed and good lateral footwork for a taller player, which helps me at both the defensive and offensive ends of the pitch. 
• I have excellent fitness. I can run all day, and usually do.  In most high school and club games, I rarely come out.  And because I take a large portion of the throw-ins on both my high school and club team, I’m doing a lot of 50-60 yard sprints every game to get back into my Center Back position after my throw-ins.
• I have excellent field vision, first touches, passing accuracy, decision making and body control.
• I am excellent at receiving and controlling balls arriving in the air, with the ability to bring down the ball with either foot or with my chest traps. 
• I am aggressive at headers.  I have the ability to win headers at peak heights using my excellent leaping ability and I have good timing to outleap my opponents.  And I still have the control to aim and control the ball’s trajectory.
• I am a strong striker and can strike hard/finish with either foot.  For my club team last season, I made 5 of 6 PKs with only one miss, which hit the left post ricocheted to a teammate where he finished it off for me.  I take a large portion of my high school and club free kicks and goal kicks.
• I am excellent at finishing around the goal.  My hard striking ability along with my pinpoint accuracy, makes me dangerous around the goal.  My height and my ability to head or redirect shots with my foot also serve me well when finishing around the goal.  I scored 3 goals my Sophomore HS season off corner and free kicks and I have 1 header for a goal so far this high school season. 
• I have excellent anticipation, crossing and marking skills.
• I have excellent range and placement with my throw-ins.  For both my club and high school teams, I take the majority of our throw-ins.  Especially if we are down at our opponent's end of the field.  My throws are almost like corner kicks and both my high school and club teams have been able to score off my throw-ins.  I recently had an assist throw in against the 13-0-0 Medina Bees, who were and are a highly nationally ranked team.  The goal helped us earn a hard fought 1-1 draw against them.  
• I am very proficient with either foot which has served me well, especially when I’ve played Center back.
• My effort level and attitude do not change regardless of the score or the level of competition.
• I’ve realized over the last year, how much of a passion I have to win.  
• The only thing that frustrates me on the soccer pitch is if I feel my teammates are not giving it their best effort, as I feel I always do.  Or the occasional referee call that I disagree with.  But I have a short memory, and quickly get focused on the task at hand.
• I have a tall & thin frame but I use my leverage and leg strength to negate bigger players. And I'm working hard in the gym to add muscle mass.
• I’m mentally tough.  I’m calm under pressure.  I do not let pressure, adversity or big games affect my level of play.
• I’m durable:  I’ve only missed 1 game due to injury in my 3 years for Brunswick (started and played in 51 of 53 games).  And for Club, I don’t know that I’ve ever missed a game due to injury.
• I’m very coachable and trying to be a student of the game.
• I’m well-liked by teammates and I’m unselfish with the ball. 
• I’m good at creating scoring opportunities for teammates.
