Personal Statement
Hello, my name is Adam Kahn and I am currently a Junior at University School in Cleveland Ohio. I am a strong, hardworking student who always strives to do my best on and off the field. In addition to my academics, I participate in Maroon Key (Student Ambassador Program), PenOhio (Creative Writing Competition), Indoor track, US NEWS (School Newspaper), Stock Market Challenge (for the past two years), and the L'chaim Society.
Outside of school, I am enrolled at the @Akiva high school in their iCNext program which is a two-year commitment. This involves studying middle eastern politics and culminates in a ten-day practical overseas experience. In my spare time, I also play the piano- I have been playing for 10 years.
After academics, my real passion is soccer. I began playing at the age of 6 in a local recreational league. I have now been playing competitive club soccer for 6 years with Cleveland Soccer Academy (Now known as Cleveland Internationals Soccer Academy United). I have played in the Midwest Regional League (MRL), National Premier League (NPL), and now in the Great Lake Alliance league (GLA- a subdivision in NPL). Last year our team topped our bracket and qualified for NPL playoffs. At the playoffs, in a matter of 3 games, I scored 3 goals and had 2 assists.
During the school 17/18 soccer season, I started for my division 1 varsity team. We made it to the State Regional Finals losing out in double overtime. I scored a goal in the Regional Semi-Final game which got us to the Regional Finals (US vs. Hudson 2-0).
I have committed a large portion of my time to the sport, but have not felt that I have lost out. In fact, soccer has been beneficial, not only improving me physically but also mentally and socially. My passion for the game and dedication to my studies has taught me how to manage time in a very productive manner. Surprisingly, my grades improved when I play soccer.
My dream is to play college soccer at a school that has both a strong academic and soccer program.
