Goalkeeping is like the combine fire I helped put out at Hoffman Farms’ grain fields; it requires quick decision-making and response time, prior rigorous physical training, courage, and teamwork.
Growing up, I spent a lot of time outside, and my first experience playing soccer was at school recess. I immediately loved the physicality and strategy of the game. I love to learn; for over ten years, I have been training independently, in practice, and in games to develop stronger athletic abilities, academic interests, and service to my community. Learning to make quick decisions that yield strategic advantage is something I’ve cultivated not only on the soccer field, but also as student body president, chess club president, and in my work on the farm. The ability to engage one’s mind and body to create opportunities, avoid danger, and facilitate advantage is a life skill that soccer also develops, and in which I thrive. This year, I trained with PDX FC (USL2/UPSL), which helped further develop my distribution and footwork, as these key skills often create effective opportunities for the field players to score. The intensity, rigor, and challenge of playing at a higher level has inspired me to want to play soccer in college while pursuing a rigorous academic field of study that will propel me as a leader into my community.
