Personal Statement
I have been raised in a sports centered family that has fostered a competitive spirit in me. I have played a variety of sports growing up, but my passion is soccer and I desire to play it at the collegiate level. in 8th grade, I suffered an elbow injury that required surgery and forced me to miss the entire soccer season. Being sidelined, helped me realize how much I love the game. I also learned the value of hard work and goal setting as I rehabbed and prepared myself for my freshman season. The hard work paid off when I earned the starting varsity goalkeeping position the next fall as a freshman and now as a senior I've been the varsity starter all 4 years. My hard work also earned me a spot on the D.C. United u17 academy team in 2019-2020 but had to decline due to travel distance, I was able to train with the team 3 to 4 nights a week though for the entirety of that season.
I have had the unique opportunity to learn the fundamental skills of goalkeeping from my mother, who was a division II college goalkeeper. As a goalkeeper, I use my height, awareness, and quick decision-making skills to proactively control the box. Goalkeeping has taught me how to be a leader and how to manage challenging high pressure situations by staying calm and mentally focused. These skills carry into my personal and academic life also. As a result, I desire to find a school that will help me reach my academic and athletic goals and prepare me for a successful future.
