Personal Statement
While I have always enjoyed playing soccer, my academic career will be the primary factor behind my college decisions. I will very likely choose to attend a school that will give me the best education possible, not just one that will let me play the sport I love. To me, playing soccer at the next level would be a bonus, not a requirement.
I started playing soccer at the age of 4 and despite trying other sports, I always preferred soccer as I enjoy the fast pace of play, non-stop action, and the instinctive reactions required to play the game. Over the years I’ve played soccer I’ve grown a lot as a player. I have played defense for most of my competitive years, with my primary position as a fullback/wingback in a 4 or 5 man back line and my secondary position is a midfield winger. However, due to injuries and player availability, I have played a lot of center back this past year. I have embraced the role of a team player and will always play whatever position needed to help the team (even playing goalkeeper for my HS team) and I understand the importance of working together with the other defenders. I am a student of the game and enjoy learning about the formations, strategies, and tactics of the sport.
This fall I earned my certification as a USSF Grassroots Referee and can see myself maintaining that certification during and beyond college. I plan to attend college to study Sports Administration and may even seek an advanced degree in my field of study. I will always look at myself as a Student first, and an Athlete second. I will be looking for a school that will support these priorities.
