Personal Statement
Growing up, I lived in a very chaotic household where we struggled financially.
Education was not highly valued, and therefore, I had a couple of tough school years. Soccer was my escape from the harsh reality around me. I would play soccer everyday, for hours if possible; which I still do. In 8th grade, I made a life-changing decision to move in with my current guardians because I wanted a better education and a calmer home environment where I could grow as a person. My academics became more important and I began to work harder. After a two and a half year break from club soccer necessitated by my home situation, I found my way back and made the school team as a starter. I then decided to tryout for the my future select team. I made the A team and the coach told me she remembered me scoring a hat trick against her son’s team and playing a great game.
Over the course of this past year, I realized that I not only need an education, but I want one. I enrolled in an AP and a Pre-AP class which I greatly enjoyed. I’m now working hard everyday to increase the odds of attending college. On and off the field, I am a positive, kind, and courageous leader. As for soccer, I am remarkably lucky to play for an amazing coach and a team full of passionate players. I am an effective player because of my strong work ethic and natural talent. I have been the top goal scorer on my team in this past season and in multiple tournaments. For ninth grade, I started on the junior varsity team but was called up to play for varsity during the last few games of the season. I enjoy helping my team win more than anything. Overall I am a respectful, humorous, and dedicated young man who will attend any college with honor, and gratitude, understanding the way I carry myself affects more people than I know.
