It was July 6th, 2006. One hundredth and tenth minute in, an icon named Zinedine Zidane scored a goal that was simply brilliant, this was the day I fell in love with Futeból or as America calls it “soccer”. At the age of 6 I had gotten a new perspective on life that was influenced by soccer. As any other kid, I started playing rec soccer not knowing if anything would come out of it. Simply playing the sport I love for fun quickly turned into a competitive activity. After playing a couple seasons with my rec team, many parents told my mom that I was good but what really stood out was when my coach told me I had “potential”. My mom shortly signed me up for a higher competitive version of the sport. I went from learning how to play soccer one year to playing at one of the highest competition for my age, only a couple of seasons later.
I’ve learned many aspects about myself through playing soccer. Soccer has taught me how to be disciplined, confident, determined, and most importantly it showed me what it’s like to have passion. When most people think of the word Passion, they think of love, desire and romance. I believe the true meaning of passion however is much different. The true meaning of passion is whether or not your willing to sacrifice. There is something that I love about working hard, competing and getting better. I’ve spent countless hours perfecting certain parts in the game. That’s how I sacrifice, I spend almost all of my free time on my passion.
Over the course of my soccer career, I’ve been told many things about my unique personality. Not only do I inspire others to play harder, when needed I help bring a playful aspect to the field. Determination is my main focus when in the pitch but again being passionate about something also means to have fun while doing it. I’m always focused on the big picture yet I understand that the little things matter. I’ve always been told that i’m a technically gifted player. My main goal is to keep possession and just play the beautiful game of soccer. My coaches have always told me “the ball moves faster than the player” and I've yet to see a player that is faster than the ball.
