Personal Statement
My name is Lucas Binnebose. I am a 6’1” 2022 graduate starting centerback for both club and high school for the past few years that can run a mile in 4:58 and a 5k in 18:07.
What I learned through this pandemic is how truly important soccer is to me - both mentally and physically. Going from playing almost 6 days week in early 2020 to having to stop completely in mid-March, left a huge hole in my life. I always knew I loved soccer but not being able to play made me appreciate it at a whole new level. As much as I could during the complete lockdown, I went to the fields by myself or with my parents to kick or else went on runs. The best day was when I got a lesson from my private coach (Alex Tozer) and met a small group of friends on the field to play in May. I found my happy place again. This has fueled my passion even greater now and I consider myself lucky whenever I am able to play during this pandemic.
I am a defensive starter for my club team SC Wave (previously known as SC Waukesha) that were WI 04 Boys State Champions in 2019 and play in both the NPL and USYS Midwest Conference (Club vs Club - previously MRL Premier 1) leagues. My achievements also include the Olympic Development Program (ODP) include making the 2020 Inter-Regional team representing the Midwest in Orlando for the 04 age group (cancelled due to pandemic), the Midwest Regional pool in 2019 and 2020, and WI State Team for 2019, 2020, and 2021. I played high school soccer so far in 10th and 11th grade at New Berlin Eisenhower (WI) and both years I have been a defensive starter earning my varsity letter and this year all conference honors. I have already been named the HS Varsity Boys Soccer Captain for the 2021 Fall season. The last two winters I was also a member of the WSG Futsal team playing 2 years up coached by both Alex and Keith Tozer. I continue to improve my skills not only through team practices but through having a personal coach for the past four years with Alex Tozer.
I am versatile where I have played almost every position but primarily 2, 4, 5, 6, and 8. I’m known for my ability to play a great long ball, my speed and endurance to track down a striker and my strategic visibility of the field. I believe physical fitness is key in soccer and I work on it outside of practices daily by running miles and lifting weights.
My greatest happiness comes on the soccer field or anytime a soccer ball is at my feet. My aspiration is to continue playing soccer through college. My collegiate goals are to be an integral part of a competitive College Soccer Program, continue to grow and expand my soccer game, and gain a degree in Sports Management. On and off the field, I plan to be a leader having a positive, hardworking attitude knowing my actions reflect not only myself but my coaches, teammates and college.
