Tell coaches about your collegiate goals and aspirations.
It is important to me that I work hard academically and athletically. I would like to attend a college that challenges my thinking and perspective-taking skills as well as my capabilities both on and off the soccer field. I hope to grow as a person, student and athlete in the way of pushing through limits that I may set for myself in order for me to see my talents and areas of growth.
What makes you a good candidate for their team?
I am someone who shows up for every practice and every game. I am a valued member of my team who demonstrates trust and relationship-building skills. I strive to find the best qualities in all my teammates in order to connect with them and learn from them so they feel valued and respected as well. My teammates are my brothers, we learn from each other. I demonstrate leadership on and off the field through my encouraging words and my follow through with performance. I willingly accept feedback from not only my coaches, but my fellow players as a means to improve my thinking and performance on the field.
What makes you different from other recruits in character, athletics and academics?
I consider myself a good person. I truly care about people and that I do right by them. I am an honest person with integrity and will also try to find the good in people in efforts to get along and build relationships. I think I am really good at this.
In the way of athletics, I excel in just about any sport I play. As a Freshman, I was the #1 singles player on the high school JV team as a freshman because the Varsity team only could take 12 players. I played Varsity soccer as a freshman on the 19th ranked team in the nation for high schools, and as a freshman on that team, I played in the state championship game that year.
Following my freshman year, I endured a repeated injury, which I now consider a blessing in disguise. The injury helped me to understand that I needed to pay more attention to stretching and rest as a means to prepare and recover for optimal performance on the field. As a result, I learned to slow down and take the time needed to properly stretch and rest so that my body can heal after practice and games.
I have learned a lot from soccer and am working hard to improve my performance off the field in my classes at school. Transitioning to high school academics my freshman year was definitely a defining moment for me. I didn’t do as well as I had hoped. I am learning more and more about how to do school and am improving steadily into my junior year. I am grateful to attend the #1 ranked high school in Wisconsin as it has challenged me to become more organized and a deeper thinker about the world around me. Outside of my classes, I participate in the Merit Program in which I perform service for my high school in the community as well as during athletic and social events. Lastly, I am in the Wisconsin Global Scholars Program in which I am following a global pathway during my 4 years in high school and will be recognized by the state of Wisconsin as a global citizen.
