Personal Statement
Academics:
I am a Junior at Ocean Grove Charter School and concurrently enrolled in Canada Community College. I have always been non-traditionally homeschooled to enable a bilingual education (English and German) as well to pursue interests outside of the school environment. I am self-motivated and work hard in every class to get the best grade possible, often helping my classmates with their schoolwork as well, despite being much younger.
Whole Story of Swimming/Successes:
My first swim lesson was at 9 weeks of age and I continued weekly lessons until the age of 5 years when I started swimming competitively with my neighborhood swim club, and soon moved to a year-round program with Peninsula Community Center Aquatics in Redwood City. After 7 years there, I switched to PASA-PC to train at a higher level and compete in travel meets.
Over the course of the past years, I have competed in many Junior Olympic as well as Far Western Championships, my biggest achievement being the qualification for Winter Junior Nationals in the 200 SCY Breaststroke. In the Fall of 2016, I will attend the Hong Kong World Cup with a couple of my fellow teammates.
In the future, I plan to add more Junior National cuts in the 100 Breaststroke as well as 200 and 400 IM. Along with time standards, I aim to become a more balanced swimmer by not letting my other strokes fall behind.
Other Interests:
In my free time, playing electric guitar and keyboard has been a hobby for almost as long as I have been swimming, although swim training does no longer allow time for being the lead guitarist in a band. I have also joined the Young Men’s Service League in Redwood City at the beginning of my freshman year in High School, which is a non-profit organization that gives young men and their mothers the opportunity to pursue philanthropic involvement in their community. Out of the 50+ hours I have volunteered thus far, I particularly enjoyed spending time with elders, working in a soup kitchen, and repairing bikes for those that cannot afford new ones.
