Personal Statement
I am Mark Walleshauser. I live in Marietta, Georgia and attend Walton High School.
I have been competitive swimming for my club team, Chattahoochee Gold, since 2000. I was five years old when I started. Besides swimming I have played basketball for a club team and I earned my second degree black belt in the Choi Kwang Do martial arts. During my years in middle school I discovered that my true talent and passion was swimming, so as the sport of competitive swimming became more demanding, I realized that in order to swim at the top of my age group I needed to dedicate myself solely to swimming. As I entered 8th grade swimming was my only sport.
As I contemplate college plans, I know that I want to to continue my swimming career. I am still undecided about a major, but I am leaning towards a career in law enforcement. So, a criminal justice major may be my decision. Currently, I have no geographic or size constraints on my college decision. I have been successful at Walton and have a current GPA of 3.667. I have taken numerous honor classes including several years of Honors Social Studies/History, Spanish and a year of Biology. I have found the academics at Walton to be very competitive and challenging, but this atmosphere has helped me become a great time manager and very organized. I have received the Academic and Athletic Excellence award in 2010 and 2011, been a member of the boys varsity Cobb County Championship team in 2010 and in 2012 have received All county 2012 team honorable mention.
I am still developing as a swimmer and can't say that I have one best event or stroke yet. My two strokes are breaststroke and butterfly. I have had recent success at the 100's in both of these events, but I feel as I grow and get stronger that the 200 and distance events will develop quickly. I also like to swim the 400 IM. Beside the "water" part of swimming, I have grown as a person and have learned how important dedication and perseverance are in swimming.
My college goals are to receive a great education, a degree and be successful swimmer. I would love to swim at a school that is a leader in their conference. I can see my self being a leader and a contributing, dedicated college team member.
