Personal Statement
Swimming has greatly impacted my life. I had severe asthma when I was younger so sports were out of the picture due to my health condition. Learning to swim was difficult for me at first. Every practice was hard. I would cry until my coaches sent me to my parents. I did this for months and soon despised the sport. Then I slowly started to get better. Although my asthma was still a problem, I was gaining confidence by winning my races in the multiple competitions I went to. By twelve, I was the GA State-champion in the 50 meter breaststroke. Through swimming, I have been able to travel the world as a swimmer for the Haitian national team. Currently I am not only one of the fastest swimmers in the state of Georgia but also a record holder for my High School and the country of Haiti as well. Swimming has taught me how to work hard and how to be persistent. I have used those skills in almost all aspects of my life. Swimming is hard, but I am grateful for the opportunities it has opened for me and I am glad I persevered. I am looking forward to continuing to swim as a varsity athlete in College.
