Only 7% of all NCAA student-athletes identify as Hispanic. I am a proud Mexican individual, a strong multi-sport athlete (runner and swimmer) and an even stronger student. My collegiate goals and aspirations are very similar to most student-athletes. But what sets me apart from most student-athletes is that these statistics highlight how Hispanics are underrepresented in NCAA sports, especially swimming. Despite the numbers, my hard-work, commitment, and sportsmanship will give a great opportunity to accomplish my goal of being a student-athlete and to add to the Hispanic representation.
