Jamie Tappin '25 Recruiting Profile

Hi there, I'm Jamie Tappin - a UK sprint freestyle swimmer aspiring to win Olympic gold. I am thoroughly analytical and highly technical; I will stop at nothing to reach this goal. It goes with out saying, I'm incredibly ambitious and hard working.

I could swim at the age of three, and was scouted to swim at Guildford City Swimming Club at the age of 5. I have swam competitively since I was 6 and I was Surrey Champion for 50m and 100m when I was 11. I have continued to love swimming and have enjoyed competing nationally.

I was awarded the top all round scholarship for academia, swimming and music to my senior school and have retained this into the 6th form. The idea of university in the USA is especially attractive and exciting for me because both academics and swimming are at a world class standard. I believe my time management is excellent, as shown by my recent GCSE exam results where I scored an equivalent of a 4.00 GPA, whilst also training 16 hours a week. I hope to maintain this balance and I am aiming for all A* grades in my A levels (taken at 18).

I am also an accomplished musician. I have the highest possible instrumental qualification (grade 8) before university level in Electric guitar, Drums and Trumpet, and a diploma equivalent to a first year undergrad degree in Electric guitar and piano. I will be taking a drum diploma this forthcoming year. I love all genres of music ranging from Funk, Rock to Jazz and Folk. I have been performing regularly since I was 8, and look forward to continue this in the future.
