My name is Jack Dunn, and I am a dedicated swimmer, musician, and aspiring engineer. As a 10th grader, I have clear goals for my future—I want to continue competing in collegiate swimming, pursue a degree in mechanical or civil engineering, and maintain my passion for music. Beyond academics and athletics, I find joy in cooking new recipes and taking on leadership roles in Boy Scouts of America, where I enjoy guiding and mentoring others.
My commitment to swimming has been unwavering, even in the face of challenges. In 2020, when our local indoor pool shut down, quitting was never an option. I continued with dryland training and, by the summer, my club team secured time at an outdoor pool 35 minutes from home. I woke up early, making the long drive 4–5 days a week, and when that opportunity wasn’t enough, I joined another team an hour away to ensure I could keep swimming. Eventually, when my hometown team regained pool access, I returned and have been swimming with them ever since. My dedication has led to success on my high school team—I made varsity as a freshman, performed well at Centennial League, and was a state alternate for the 200 and 500 freestyle. Sophomore year I did great at league placing 2nd in the 200 freestyle, 3rd in the 500 freestyle and 1st in the 400 freestyle relay.
Beyond the pool, music has been another defining aspect of my life. At the end of 8th grade, I auditioned for and was accepted into my high school’s Chamber Orchestra as a freshman. This elite ensemble is known for performing professional-level music without a conductor—a challenge that has refined my musical skills and teamwork abilities. We actively engage with the community, performing at the zoo for Halloween and hosting the Beethoven Birthday Bash, a fundraiser where live performances accompany a silent auction.
Looking ahead, I plan to major in engineering, minor in music, and compete on a college swim team. After college, I hope to continue playing music, coach swimming, and build a fulfilling life that includes family and career success. Whether in the water, in an orchestra, or in an engineering lab, I strive to challenge myself, stay dedicated, and make a lasting impact.
