Personal Statement

Hello, my name is Michael Kail and I am a senior at Calvert Hall College High School in Baltimore Maryland. I swim for the Calvert Hall College High School Varsity team as well as competitively swim year-round with my club swim team, Aqua Culture Swim School, both in short course and long course meets. I also am a member of the Varsity Water Polo team for my high school team in the starting goalie position and as Captain. I am 6'5" and185 lbs.

My collegiate goals and aspirations are to graduate with an Engineering degree. I believe that completing this degree will give me the necessary knowledge and skills to succeed in my chosen field and have a positive impact on the world around me.

Another college goal is to participate in extracurricular activities that align with my interests and passions like being an active member of my chosen college’s swim team and/or water polo team. Being a part of a team has enriched my life since I began playing sports when I was four years old and I want to continue this at the collegiate level. I welcome new challenges that help guide me to be a better teammate, student, friend, son and brother. Fear of the unknown is not what compels me to move forward. I channel those feelings into positive energy for myself and for those around me. I am always looking to move upward and onward.

I'm aiming to become a top-notch swimmer and teammate to enable me to contribute my best to the team(s). I believe I'd make a great addition to your swim team because I currently hold the position of team captain for both my high school water polo and swim teams. This shows that I have the experience and skills to be a team player. On top of that, I've never missed a swim meet that my team has participated in, so you can count on me to always be ready to go where I am needed.

What sets me apart from other recruits is my determination to make the most of what I'm given. Whether it's swim training or in the courses I take, I always strive to excel. I believe that even when faced with challenges, it's important to showcase my abilities and demonstrate my character. I'm excited to start this journey and see where it takes me. I'm ready!
