Unlike most of my teammates, I did not start swimming at the age of 6 or 7. I actually didn’t start swimming until I was 12 years old. I tried many other sports before swimming but just never enjoyed them as much as I enjoyed being in the pool. At first I felt like I was at a disadvantage because I didn’t know any of the proper strokes, starts or turns. This feeling made me work even harder to catch up. Two out of the three years that I have been swimming I received the “Coach’s Award” for my hard work and dedication. Last year I also won second place top scoring IMX award for my team. I swam for the high school swim team when I was in 8th grade and received the Most Valuable Swimmer award. Receiving these awards makes swimming 6 days a week as well as early morning practices all worth it. My coach has really helped me to enjoy working hard and seeing results. I also take my efforts into the classroom. Swimming has helped me to become more organized with my homework and studying. I currently am not sure what field of study I am interested in but I know I would love to swim in college. My goal is to improve my technique and continue to drop my times. I am hoping to find the school that will help me reach my academic and athletic goals.
