Personal Statement
Ever since I began swimming almost ten years ago, it has been one of the most important parts of my life. For over half my life I have been going to as many practices as I could, and I have used that time to try to improve as much as possible. I was faced with a difficult challenge when I strained a ligament in my foot early in May of my junior year, and I was left unable to kick for two weeks. I didn't let this hold me back though, and I still practiced with a pull buoy to improve my pull and not let the time go to waste.
I have been swimming for my high school's varsity swim team while I was still in middle school, I have received All League every year since my eighth grade season, and I have been a captain for that team since I was a sophomore. I did all of this while maintaining high grades throughout my academic career. I feel that my most valuable skill as a swimmer is my ability to assess my own races and use those observations along with my coach's advice to improve my next race. I hope to find a program that can help me grow both as a student and as an athlete, and I believe I will be a great addition to that program because of the dedication and leadership I can bring.
