I attend a deeply conservative school and swim for a largely liberal team, giving me perspectives from both sides of the political spectrum. This has given me an open mind and an ability to fit in with any audience. I also have a strong work ethic both academically and athletically. Going from morning practice to school twice a week has proven difficult and fatiguing, but it has also taught me discipline. My efforts paid off this past year when I achieved the Scholastic All American Award. I also believe that one of the most important parts of building a successful team is having a high morale. I encourage and push on my teammates during our hardest practices, as the seniors did for me in the past.
I have been swimming for 11 years now, so swimming for a competitive team is very important to me. However, I am going to college to learn and swim, not swim and learn. Thus, academics takes priority, and I am looking for teams that take the rigorous academic schedule of their athletes into account.
