My name is Kaleb Peña. I am a senior at Clyde High School. I understand that my times may not be up the most impressive currently, but I believe my recent journey showcases my dedication, work ethic, and the potential for improvement.
Over the past two years, I have gone through a transformative journey both mentally and physically that has reflected in my swimming. I am proud to share that through hard work, discipline, and a commitment to self-improvement, I have successfully dropped over 60 pounds and significantly improved my 200 freestyle time from a 2:43.58 during my sophomore year to a 1:58.29 at districts in February.
This journey has been a testament of my dedication to the sport and to my personal growth.
I have had a somewhat unusual high school swimming career as well. Clyde High School did not have a swim team until my freshman year when a friend of mine and I started one with the help of our parents. Our school also does not have its own pool. Given these circumstances, we practiced at a neighboring school’s pool with our club team, but were unable to have two-a-day practices, controlled swimming-focused dryland, or a swim-tailored strength training program because of this.
I believe that, due to my unusual high school experience, I still have a lot of untapped potential that can be discovered in a more structured training environment. I am committed to putting in the effort necessary to continue progressing.
