2023 HighlightsI started swimming in the 8th grade and immediately fell in love with the sport. Over the course of the past 3 years, I’ve come to enjoy the journey of training both in and out of the pool as well as the relationships and competition along the way. I was voted by my teammates to be the Team Captain at Leander Rouse High School, where I try to set an example of my hard work ethic, both in the classroom and in the pool, as well as encouraging my teammates to always do your best no matter what. Having joined the sport later than most, I have had to work very hard to get myself to the same skill level as swimmers who have been swimming since they were toddlers. It is highly motivating for me when I continue to drop time every time I race where I am now competitive at a much higher level. My main goal is to always keep improving.
Swimming Achievement Highlights:
Leander Rouse HS Varsity Team Captain
Brushy Creek Marlins Swim Club “Marlin of the Year”
5A Texas State in the 200 free and 400 free relays (School Records)
Varsity Lettered my Freshman year (5A Texas Regionals on the 200 Medley Relay)
Sailfish Club Swim record holder: 50 Free LC; 100 IM SCY
As a freshman, I was subjected to learning away from the traditional High School setting due to COVID. Although my grades were good, I could have done better. When I started my sophomore year I was hit with the realization that each grade really counts as I started to take my academics much more seriously and began taking a number of AP and Honors level courses.
Academic Highlights:
Leander ISD Student Athlete of the week
National Honor Society Member
National Hispanic Merit Award
Completed 2 AP Courses with a score of 4
I was awarded student athlete of the week for my district of over 41,000 students where my High School Coach quoted, “Brannan could be tired, sore, running on fumes and he will still show up to give it his all. In addition to putting his best into practice, he also puts his best into academics. He approaches everything with a smile and a good attitude.” In my Club Summer swim team (The Brushy Creek Marlins), I was awarded “Marlin of the Year” honors given to a singular swimmer who displays leadership both in and out of the pool as well as performance in being the highest point scorer of the season. As a Junior I was inducted into the National Honor Society for my high grades as well as awarded a Hispanic National Merit award for excelling on my PSAT. So far I have completed two AP courses in AP Human Geography and AP World History where I received a 4/5 on both AP tests.
As you know, swimming is a very time consuming sport and I have learned to manage my time between challenging academics, working a lifeguarding job, mowing lawns, and several practices a day. It is my dream to continue both my athletic and academic career at a higher level in college as I know it will provide me the needed structure to prepare me for life and future careers.
