Personal Statement

I am thrilled to introduce myself to you as a passionate and dedicated swimmer who is eager to join your team. I come from a small town where swim opportunities aren't abundant, but this has never—and will never—stop me from doing what I love. Despite the lack of structure for swimming and nonexistent swim clubs in my town, I have been able to develop my skills and achieve impressive results through sheer hard work and determination. I often train alone or with my partner/coach when it's not high school swim season, forcing me to have discipline in my training and create my own initiative for getting better, a skill I know will be useful in future endeavors.

Being a part of a team has always been a dream of mine, and I am excited about the opportunity to join a college swim team. I am willing to put in the effort to be a valuable member of the team, and I am committed to working with my coaches and teammates to achieve our shared goals. I am eager to learn from experienced coaches and to train alongside talented swimmers who share my passion for the sport.

Over the years, my hard work and perseverance have paid off. I have been able to consistently lower my swim times and achieve personal bests in various events. I am proud of my achievements, but I know that I still have a lot of potential to unlock. My current goals are to achieve Winter Junior Championship cuts for the 100 and 200 free by the 2024 meet, and while it may seem like a lot of time to drop from my current times, I am more than ready to take on the challenge. As I head into college and potentially on your swim team, this ambition to be the best swimmer that I can be will only grow.

In addition to bettering myself as swimmer, I also place a great emphasis on academics. Throughout high school, I have created and maintained a balance between staying an A+ student while also putting in the work for swim. I know how stressful it can be at times, but the value I put on both my education and the sport I love are both equally great, enough to accept this sacrifice.

I am confident that my determination, work ethic, and love for swimming will make me a valuable addition to your team. I look forward to discussing this opportunity with you further and am excited about the prospect of joining your program.
