Hi my name is Kevin Houseman. I was first introduced to swimming at the age of 3 and since then I have tried a range of sports from lacrosse to water polo, and although the sports were fun, I seemed to always find my way back to the comfort of swimming. At first I took lessons like everyone else at the local YMCA and quickly joined the team there, but soon after I moved to a USA competitive swim team. Starting when I was 12 something just seemed to change, I became self-driven and motivated in and out of the water and have kept these traits ever since. As a freshman on the high school swim team I was on the varsity relay for breaststroke, won the 100 breast at metros(season best at metros 58.16) and districts, and finished at state 5th with a 58.82. One month later as a USA sanctioned swimmer my 100 breast dropped to a 57.65 SCY and a 1:05.9 LCM which qualified me for summer junior nationals. While our team didn’t go to junior nationals we did attend futures which was my first national level meet, where I swam the 100 breast, 200 breast, 100 back and the breaststroke leg of the 400 medley relays.
Academics is also important to me and to that as a freshman my GPA was 3.83 and I am continuing to build on that. Now as a sophomore my academic mission is continuing with a first semester GPA of 3.93. Our high school swim team won the 2017 state championship for the first time in our schools history.
