Being a part of my high school tennis team has given me the best experiences of my high school career. From hanging out with my friends to winning state championships, this team has given me more than I could have ever asked for. While I started playing tennis when I was 6, I have really started to get much more competitive in my high school years because of the memories I have made with my friends.
I am lucky enough to have my closest friends on my high school team. This team elevated my friendships because my friends had my back in so many close matches which helped me fight even harder and reach my top level in tight matches. However, me and my friends have had many close challenge matches, but we have never let that hinder our friendship.
I have been a part of the Vestavia Hills Varsity Tennis Team for three years and during those three years, we have won three 7A State Championships. My freshman year was filled with tough defeats in challenge matches so I did not get to see the court much. My sophomore year I went undefeated in challenge matches, but I ended up one spot short of starting. That motivated me to want to start the next year and in my junior year I hit my stride going undefeated in challenge matches. As a result, I started in doubles and singles and won both courts at the state championship. The final of my singles match at the state championship was a very long match and what ultimately led to me winning was my team cheering me on every point.
As a result of my junior year, I was selected to join the North All-Star team during the annual All-Star week. Being a part of the All-Star team was a great experience for me and I was sad that it got cut short because of rain, but I made new friends as a result of that match.
Throughout high school I have challenged myself in the classroom taking only honors and AP for my core classes. It has been difficult to try and balance school and tennis, but I have gotten a lot better with my time management as I have been in high school for three years. I hope to carry this on into college as I want a college that can challenge me academically. As a rising senior, I hope I can lead my team to a fourth consecutive state title and help give my team a brighter future for when I leave.
My goal in finding a tennis team is to compete at a high level and also to make friendships along the way. I also want a school that can challenge me academically.
