I have been a dual athlete during my first two years at SDA, contributing significantly both on the basketball court and the tennis court. I was awarded MVP for basketball my Freshman year, and received Defensive Player of the Year my Sophomore year. Although I know that basketball and tennis complement one another quite well, I have realized that my goal is to play college tennis, so I have decided to retire from high school basketball this year so that I can focus exclusively on tennis.
I know that I have not had the opportunity for as much tournament play as other juniors because of my basketball commitment, but I don’t think this compromises my talent on the tennis court. I know about hard work and commitment. In my 2.5 years at San Dieguito High School, I have not missed a day of school, a single practice, a basketball game or a tennis match while still maintaining a 3.97 GPA. I know I need to improve my game in the next 12 months and I am committed to doing that. I will be spending this next year with intense training (individual and group training) and competing in as many tournaments as I can in order to improve my game as well as my UTR (currently a UTR 9).
The common comments I get about my play is about my athleticism, my hands at the net and how I never give up and fight for every point until the end. This is how I play and will continue to do so every time I step onto the court.
