Tennis started for me at age 4, when I first watched an oncoming soft foam ball thrown over a tennis net at me. I swung with my racquet and smiled when I finally made contact. Tennis has been a major part of my life ever since that day. In fact, I don’t even remember a time in my life when tennis wasn’t at the forefront of everything. In short, tennis has been and continues to be at the center of my life.
Academics and sportsmanship have also always been important to me. My parents are both physicians as well as high-level athletes. They helped me understand the importance of sportsmanship, hard work, academics and positively contributing to society. I enjoy studying new things and I plan to pursue a science major in college. I have volunteered my time to help others for causes that I truly believe in.
I feel I can contribute to a collegiate tennis team with my tennis skills, sportsmanship, work ethic and overall enthusiasm for the sport. I currently train for about 4 hours per day split into two sessions. I am constantly striving to improve my tennis skills, tournament performance, and national ranking. I hope to attend a university that has the coaching, facilities, level of play and resources that will allow for my continued development as a tennis player.
I enjoy the challenges of high-level national and international competition. I advanced to the fourth round of the singles main draw at the Kalamazoo USTA L1 Boy’s National Championships (2022). My wins at Kalamazoo included wins against a player ranked #28 at the time in the USTA national standings and a win against another player who was ranked #29 in the USTA national standings at the time. I’ve also won singles and doubles matches at the Easter Bowl L1 USTA Boys National Spring Championships (2022). This included a singles win over a player ranked #22 in the USTA national standings at the time.
My personal USTA national singles standing peaked at #44 in boys 16s and I am currently striving to beat that USTA national ranking in boys 18’s USTA singles. I was also a finalist at an ITF doubles tournament (2022). I have been active in doubles competition my entire junior career. I recently won a boys 18s doubles USTA tournament (2023).
In the spring of 2023, I advanced to the round of 32 in the main draw (singles) of the L1 USTA Easter Bowl Spring National Championships boys 18s (2023). This included a singles win over a player ranked #34 in the USTA national boys18s standings. I was a boys 18s singles finalist in an L2 Scottsdale Arizona USTA national tournament (Feb 2023). I recently won 1st place in a boys 18s singles USTA national tournament in Mesa Arizona (April 2023).
I am currently ranked #5 in B18s singles in my USTA Southern California section and #55 nationally in B18s USTA singles (May 2023).
I believe that both singles and doubles competition present different sets of challenges that I love to face. I strive to play in an aggressive and creative way and enjoy the unique on-court problem solving challenges that come up during both singles and doubles competition. I look forward to playing singles and doubles on a collegiate team with like-minded enthusiastic colleagues that value camaraderie, competition, academics and sportsmanship. Hopefully, we will all push ourselves to become even better tennis players under the guidance of an excellent and experienced coaching staff.
