My name is Josh Ichen and I am enthusiastic to be considered for a spot on your tennis team. I've played on my varsity tennis team every year and was announced as a captain this year. Throughout the course of my three seasons, I have grown extensively as a leader and a player. I started freshman year as 4 singles and worked my way up to 1 singles this last year. By devoting myself in the offseason, I had an extremely successful season. I had set a hard goal for myself prior to the season to make it to state, and I actually ended up making it to state and even winning a round there. Even though I have only played tennis seriously for 2 years, I have been improving at a rate faster than anyone else, and would love to continue growing on a college team. On the court, I may not have the fastest ball speed, but I make up for that in my energy and attitude. Unlike most competitors, I am able to stay positive during every point and grind shots out to make my opponent hit several great shots in a row to beat me. However, this decision is more than just my tennis abilities. I work extremely hard in school too and have maintained a high grade point average while managing to balance tennis and working as a youth apprentice at a civil engineering consulting company. I would be a great fit for a college tennis team because I am more than willing to put in the hours to succeed without complaint and I look forward to benefiting a college both academically and athletically!
