Update 3/14/21:
I hit a new PR yesterday in my last XC meet!
First track meet next week, looking forward to my performance in the 800 and 1600.
Update 11/20: I have been training non-stop since March. In addition to my XC training, I trained with a strength coach for 6 weeks starting in October in hopes of achieving a new PR in the 800m. I'm happy to say that I ran a 1:59.59 which is a new PR for me. This was a great confidence booster! I'm back to only XC now, and I'm hopeful we'll have a season starting in late January.
Growing up in an area known as the “Endurance Capital of the World”, and training in various terrain and weather conditions, has mentally and physically prepared me to be the athlete I am today.
I remember participating in a running program in the 4th grade where we ran at lunch and kept track of our miles. It was one of the worst winters and it rained constantly, but I kept running until the end of the school year. I won the award for the most miles that year and it sparked my interest in running and winning. I ran cross country and track in middle school but it wasn’t until I attempted the 1600 at a meet, that I realized I had potential and I finished a lap ahead of everyone. This fueled my passion and determination to compete in High School.
My times have steadily improved in my freshman and sophomore years and I was the only sophomore at my school to compete in the San Joaquin Sections. I have set high goals for myself for my junior and senior year, and look forward to achieving them.
I believe in encouraging my teammates and working as a team to achieve our goals. I enjoy the strategy of competing and I continuously work towards improving my performance.
As a 3-sport athlete I have to be able to balance academics and sports and try to fit in some of the amazing recreational opportunities that surround me in the Sierra.
I am committed to continuing my student athlete pursuits in college and have interests in the fields of engineering, business, and sports psychology, although I’m still exploring other options as well.
Having my Junior year Varsity Track and Field season canceled and my Senior year XC season pushed back, has been very disappointing. I view this time as an opportunity to continue my training while focusing on my academics. I plan on being a strong competitor when the XC and Track and Field seasons begin.
