My name is Nathan Gonzalez and I am currently attending Covina High School as a sophomore. I intend to pursue a mechanical engineering degree and career which is why I selected Covina High School for their Engineering Career Pathway. I am a student first and an athlete second.
I am a member of the California Scholarship Federation and the National Society of High School Scholars since my Freshman year.
I began playing soccer when I was 5 years old. I played on the city, recreational, club, and high school teams. When I play soccer, I am more concerned with the team scoring a goal. If I see a teammate closer to the goal I will pass the ball.
My high school coach moved me to the varsity team as a freshman, but when I observed the junior varsity team needed me, I asked to be placed with the junior varsity team to help the team and our school.
All of my coaches tell me I am a hard worker both on and off the field. I am dedicated to my education and my team.
I continue to look to improve my personal best time in soccer and track.
I transition to playing track and field, focusing on the 400m, 200m, 100m, and 4X4. In my sophomore year, I was awarded the most improved player after the season. During the award ceremony, my coach told a story about the day before a meet when he asked me why I was running on the track the day before a meet. And, I responded because I wanted to get faster before the meet.
I looking forward to attending and graduating from your university with a mechanical engineering degree.
