Growing up I always prided myself on being somewhat athletic. Alas, whatever sport I participated in, I never felt like I fit in. I was an athlete that really loved to master the craft of whatever I was doing at that moment, though for a time in my life I didn't have a sport to play and for many years I found my identity in that as an athlete. The Covid situation put a pause on everything for me and really made me rethink my life and that led me to discover running.
During my High School journey, I decided to pursue Cross Country and Track Running. I had to find a school that fit my academic standards and a team that put training first. That is how I ended up commuting to and from school over an hour each way to Westminster Academy in Ft. Lauderdale when I live in Miami Lakes. Most thought our family was out their minds for committing to this change driving over 500 miles a week, but no doubt it takes a lot of praying and a family like mine to make this dream work. It has changed how I face challenges and given me a broader view of living my driven purpose.
Because of our family’s commitment I not only do I attend school there, but we also became a family of volunteers in mentoring future runners. I’ve found joy in new ways that make me more connected with running and mindful of how much it completes me as a person. I’m excited to take what I’ve learned and transition into college, ready to see how my new experiences will help me grow as a man and an athlete. I am truly grateful to my parents and older brother for my upbringing and their continued support to make my goal of being Olympic Runner a step closer.
