Personal Statement
I recognized in middle school that I am most successful academically and personally when I'm athletically engaged and competitively challenged. In eighth grade, my football coach suggested I try the shot put and discus and I've never looked back. I loved the power and grace required to be a successful thrower, and although it wasn't easy or natural at first I quickly found my rhythm and a passion for the sport.
Every time I step in the circle I'm not just competing against other throwers, but I'm competing against myself. It might seem like an independent sport, but I think that being part of a team that trains together and challenges one another makes us all collectively stronger and better. It is my hope that I'll find a home on a collegiate team where I can continue learning, growing, and supporting my track and field family.
