I have the will to succeed and I have the will to prepare to succeed. I bring that work ethic to my training and academic efforts.
Growing up I played several different sports but none of them captured my passion like running. One of my friends invited me join a running club when I was in elementary school. It was fun and I really liked it. My coaches encouraged me and showed me for the first time that running can teach valuable life lessons.
The classroom is important because I want to have success in my career. I recognize that college is an essential part of that goal. The challenges in college - both academic and athletic - will enhance my perseverance and equip me to succeed in my career.
My running has improved substantially over the past three years and I continue to improve. Here are my times:
1600M - Frosh: 5:36 | Soph: 4:35 | Junior: 4:22
3200M - Frosh: 11:43 | Soph: 9:58 | Junior: 9:47
Cross Country (3 Mile) - Frosh: 20:03 | Soph: 17:34 | Junior: 15:35.0
Seeing improvement in my performance makes me feel optimistic about where I am headed. The more challenges I endure, the more lessons I learn. Team leaders have helped me. Having gone through stages of improvement, I am now motivated as a team leader to encourage others.
I place a high priority on preparing - mentally, physically and emotionally. These aspects must be in balance for me to perform at my best. I seek to be calm and relaxed. In all of these efforts, I am grateful to work with my coaches who direct me in areas where I need to focus.
I look forward having even more success while competing at a collegiate level.
