Running cross country and track has had a big impact in my life. I came into high school with a 6:08 mile, and I thought I was good. After joining the running program which York High School has made legendary, I learned that my goal is not to be good, but to be great. York Cross Country every year has an average of 150 kids come out for the team. I myself, was around 25th best on the freshman team, but through hard work, dedication, and a competitive spirit, I was able to work myself up to 10th best on the whole team by Junior year. However, I am still not satisfied and am willing to keep working and moving up to the best I can be. I would like to thank my coaches for giving me workouts and pushing me to the best of my ablity and my teammates for pushing each other every day and not letting anyone slack. I am a good candidate for any college team because I am used to running 70+ miles in 6 days, I am coachable, I will do what is best for my team and not let them down. One important thing to add about my competitive spirit is I hate losing. If I run a bad race or my team loses, I go home and feel horrible the rest of the day. But this drives and motivates me, I do everything I can do to help my team win the next race so I don't need to feel the horrible feeling of losing again. As my coach says, "You have a choice in life. You can be average, you can be good, you can be great", I know I want to be great, and I am going to be.
