I think the biggest things that sets me apart from others is my self-motivation. While winning medals is great, I get more satisfaction out of setting a high goal for myself and then achieving that. Whether it is a new PR, breaking a school records, or keeping my grades up, these internal motivators are really what drives me. Being successful in my sport has been great, but as my parents like to say, if you have to be anything, be kind. I really like to motivate my teammates to see them be successful, hit their own PR's, and feel accomplished. Even though I was only a sophomore this year, my team still looked to me for leadership.
My Cross Country and Track Coach, Doug Cherry, had this to say about me, "Nathaniel has a great work ethic and shows up day after day ready to put in the work it takes to maximize his talent," Cherry said. "He is a very good runner, but he is also a good student, a leader, and a good teammate. We are lucky to have him at Joliet Central. He makes the Steelmen proud." I really appreciated his words and I look forward to continuing to live up to them over the next two years.
