I've had experiences throughout my running career in which teammates helped me mentally during the times I was not happy with my performance in a race. Their words of encouragement and belief in me helped me get to where I am today. So, I know the impact of having supportive teammates, and I try to give even more back to them when they are down. In college, I want to bring a positive and uplifting energy to the team by encouraging and believing in my teammates no matter the outcome, just like I've experienced throughout my years of cross country. My goal for running is to continue to improve and push myself beyond my perceived limits. I will accept the outcome of our races, but never settle for them. I strive to always improve, even if it's by one second. And I'm learning that this can help me in the classroom, too.
I want to push myself academically in college. My high school record does not reflect my full potential. I've had some struggles, but I kept pushing forward. I know I'm smarter than what my GPA says. I know academics and athletics go hand in hand. I'm applying the lessons I've learned about pushing myself on the race course to my performance in the classroom. Now, I ask my teachers more questions and stay after for additional help on homework compared to when I was a freshman and sophomore. I am seeing the benefits in my grades. I want to continue to improve in college and maintain a strong GPA. I will find a way to exceed expectations athletically and academically.
