I really enjoy the hurdles. It is my favorite event. I never thought about running the hurdles but my track coach asked me to give it a try. I am open to new things, so I tried the hurdles. I will say that my first time was not the most graceful. I worked hard and this year things are starting to come together. I have learned to train my body to go on memory, which has helped me improve. I like the 110m because of the fast pace and the quick start. I have improved my time by a second just since the start of the season. My next event is the 300m. I like running in between the hurdles and having the time to pass others on the track. I feel comfortable with that race because I am a sprinter at heart.
My coach encouraged me to run some races also. I compete in the 400m and the 4x400m relay. I qualified and competed in the State Indiana Indoor Meet in the 4x400m relay. I had such a great time competing and meeting other track team competitors.
School is an important part of who I am. I really like Math and Science, so I have chosen Engineering as a career. I enjoy putting the pieces together and understanding how things work. I like a challenge and that is exactly what my junior year turned out to be. I learned a lot about my study habits and being efficient with my time. Being a student athlete requires dedication. I also tutor other students and volunteer at church. My schedule is busy, but I would not have it any other way.
I like that when I run. I feel free. When I look in the other lane and see someone ahead of me, I push myself…it is the competitive side of me. There is nothing like a team sport to help you feel part of something where everyone has the same goal…to compete and win.
Thank you for your time.
