My name is Samuel Schnyder, and I am currently attending my 11th-grade year at the American International School of Johannesburg. I hold both an American and a Swiss passport. I am also currently completing my International Baccalaureate Diploma with a predicted score of 38/45. I am interested in media studies as my major in university and to be a contributing member of your track and cross country teams.
My college goals are to improve my times in both track and cross-country events. I aspire to develop friendships and lasting memories with a strong community of runners and coaching staff. I come from a long history of runners. My grandfather was a 100 km champion in Biel, Switzerland. My mother is in the Hall of Fame at Adams State University for her contributions to the track/cc teams.
I have lived in Finland, Switzerland, Thailand, and now South Africa. Although I am receiving an excellent education, my athletics comes with limitations. One of these limitations is that my school has only one season of Track and Cross-Country. During the off-season, I train with a local running club.
The characteristics that make me most unique is I have run with giraffes and occasionally have to watch out for lions. Growing up in Africa is all I really know. Living alongside some of the most impoverished people in the world makes me humble to experience their pure happiness.
I look forward to an opportunity to be part of a team and sharing the spirit of Ubuntu, the African saying for "We are stronger together."
