Joshua Alcobia Gomes '24 Recruiting Profile

From a young age, I have been involved and interested in track and field, thanks to my mother's influence. She was an extremely competitive cross-country and track and field runner in South Africa, competing and placing at the national level. My earliest memory of track and field is going on runs with both my parents when I was in grade 4. I still run the same route to this day. Since then, I have officially been a part of the sport since the fifth grade, competing in both cross country and track and field.

Over the years, I have had the privilege of competing at the national level in Switzerland since 2019, joining my first club team, Old Boys Basel, and competing at both the Kantonalmeisterschaften and the national championships. This opportunity has allowed me to grow and develop as an athlete and further fuelled my passion for track and field.

In addition to club competitions, I have also started training with the regional group for athletes who have reached a certain benchmark, and afterwards, I joined LC Therwil, where I have been training since 2020. This experience has been instrumental in helping me build my skills and confidence as an athlete.

My TAP assessment results show that I am intense, competitive, and emotionally driven. I thrive on the challenge of competition and am highly motivated by the desire to win. My need for control is strong, which can become frustrating when situations are out of my control. However, this frustration fuels my drive to work harder and push myself to be the best athlete I can be. With a strong work ethic and high discipline, I am willing to put in the effort and time to reach my goals.

I understand that achieving success in my sport of choice, Track and Field, requires dedication and hard work. I am willing to put in the effort and time to reach my goals. My competitive nature drives me to constantly seek out new challenges and push myself to new heights. I know that I have what it takes to compete at the highest level and I am committed to doing whatever it takes to get there.

My collegiate goals and aspirations are to compete at the highest level possible, both in athletics and academics. I want to be challenged both in the classroom and on the track, and I am committed to putting in the hard work and dedication necessary to succeed in both areas. I am eager to be part of a team that values excellence in both athletics and academics, and I believe that your program would provide me with the best opportunity to achieve my goals.
