Hello, I am Derick Ross, 5’7, senior class of 2025; currently attending Havre De Grace High School. I have been running track for 2 years going onto 3, my sophomore year, junior year, and now senior year. During my high school track experience, we have won the regional title for our male track team in the 2024 spring season. As of right now, I am the fastest at my school, working to be faster.
At first, I had never seen track to be a main sport for me. I originally played basketball for my school. However, through unfortunate circumstances, basketball was not working for me as well as I wanted it to. Therefore, I withdrew from the sport and lost my love for it. Nevertheless, during my transition, another coach (Coach Lee), saw potential in me and therefore suggested I run for the school.
After doing track for 1 1/2 years, I realized I had the capability to go somewhere with track. Following that season, I fell in love with the peace running brings and the competitive level that I have not experienced before track.
In addition, I do take pride in my academic progress and accomplishments. I have made honor roll for all 3 years of high school. Going into my fourth year, to add on to my accomplishments, I am still currently in band for my high school. I have participated in Boys Scouts for some times and participated in parades. I attend church, and I play the drums for the same church as well.
Involving my career, I would like to go D1 as everyone else would. However, I am open to D2 and D3 as well. I am a hard-working student – athlete, looking to take my track career further than just high school. To add on, I would like to experience the college competitive level. I do track workouts currently and hit the gym regularly; to get faster and stronger. I hope that i can go far into my track career and educational career.
