Personal Statement
“The only thing that can stop me from obtaining my goal is me…” This statement has been taught to me by my parents and reinforced as I learn and experience new aspects of life. Growing up in a military family, values and life lessons continually help to shape the person I am. Both my parents served in the United States Navy and showed me that hard work and determination can take you far. I consider myself a well-rounded student who aims to be successful in my studies. I take my academics seriously and enroll in classes that will challenge my abilities. I have a good GPA and ranked in the top 10% of my class. My career aspirations are to be an engineer and find ways to improve low emission engines. The drive I have to be successful does not stop with academics, it also continues on the track.
I started playing sports when I was six years old. My father introduced me to football and I continued to play in my freshman year of high school. In that same year, I started running indoor track, and my love for the sport grew as I continued into the outdoor season. In my first year of running track, I was ranked in the top 50 freshman class runners in Maryland and this helped me to believe I can be better and grow. My desire to improve my technique and form led me to join a summer league where I was able to improve my times and set goals for my track career.
As I continue to grow physically and mentally, I will strive to be an asset and a positive influence on any team I am given the opportunity to run for. I will continue to push myself by giving 110 percent, and represent my team and school in high regard. Being successful in all I do is key.
