After getting cut from the basketball team three times, I was encouraged to try out track and field by some friends, mainly due to my thin frame. I was fairly bad at sprinting, but I continued to show up to practice, so my coach asked me to return in the fall for cross country. After just a couple weeks, I was instantly intrigued with running, and decided to run distance during track season. Three seasons later, I became a regional competitor and a varsity runner.
While I still have a long way to go, I learned about what it takes to not just compete, but to push toward goals that seem out of your reach. What sets me apart from other recruits is that while many of them are pursuing running in college to get scholarships, I actually enjoy running, and I am constantly seeking ways to improve, which includes competing at the collegiate level.
